My Story
My journey into life coaching didn’t start in a classroom—it started through my own healing.
Like many people, I grew up carrying wounds that no one could see. Childhood trauma, experiences that shaped how I viewed myself, relationships, and the world around me. For a long time, I thought surviving was the same as healing.
But it’s not.
As I got older, life continued to challenge me in ways I never expected. I experienced church hurt and religious trauma, which can be especially painful when the place that is supposed to provide healing becomes a source of pain. I went through divorce, had to rebuild my identity, and navigate life as a mother while trying to rediscover who I was beyond the roles I had been placed in.
Then came one of the most transformative chapters of my life—coming out as a gay Black woman later in life.
That journey required courage, honesty, and a level of self-acceptance that I had never been taught growing up. It meant confronting shame, confronting fear, and learning how to love myself fully—without apology.
But somewhere along the way, something powerful happened.
What once felt like broken pieces began to turn into wisdom.
The pain turned into purpose.
And the healing became a calling.
I realized that the very things that tried to break me were also the things that prepared me to help others.
Today, through Cotton Hands Coaching & Consulting, I support individuals who are navigating their own healing journeys—whether that’s overcoming trauma, processing religious or church hurt, rebuilding after divorce, rediscovering identity, or learning how to live authentically.
The name Cotton Hands is intentional. Cotton represents resilience—something that has survived hardship but continues to grow. And hands represent care, compassion, and support.
My coaching approach is about meeting people with compassion while empowering them to reclaim their lives.
Because healing doesn’t mean forgetting what happened.
Healing means learning how to move forward with strength, clarity, and purpose.
My mission is simple:
To help people move from hurt to healing, one step at a time.
If you’re ready to start that journey, I’m here to walk alongside you.
